The Partners

Alan Manson

Alan Manson

Alan joined D M MacKinnon after completing his legal training in Edinburgh. Since becoming a partner with this firm he deals with a broad area of legal work. He specialises in conveyancing and all aspects of property law relating to landed estates and farms. He has recently been involved with a number of renewable energy projects as well as the commercial development of agricultural land for a number of farming clients.

Away from the office, Alan enjoys outdoor pursuits particularly fishing, walking and sailing.


Karen MacAllister

Karen MacAllister

Originally from Durban, South Africa where she qualified as a lawyer, Karen joined the firm as a Legal Assistant and re-qualified to practice in Scots law, then becoming a partner. She deals mainly with wills, trusts and executries, elderly client advice, commercial and private leases and general private client business.

Out of the office Karen is actively involved in a number of Trusts and in her leisure time enjoys swimming and is an avid reader.


Louise Fraser

Louise Fraser

Louise is native to Oban and a former pupil of Rockfield School and Oban High School. After obtaining an MA (Hons) in English Language, Louise then completed the accelerated LLB, both at the University of Glasgow. Louise returned to Oban and joined D M MacKinnon after working for three years in a commercial firm in Glasgow and deals mainly with conveyancing and employment law matters.

Outside work, Louise enjoys reading, socialising, swimming and walking her dog Mabel.


Sally Orr

Sally is a former pupil of Oban High School. After gaining a BA (Hons) in design, Sally completed a PGCE and taught art and design in Edinburgh and Kent. She returned to Edinburgh to work as a designer and latterly Director of a bespoke UK jewellery design company before working as an Office Manager for a Leith based architectural and property development company. In order to combine her professional experience with her interest in legal matters, Sally returned to university and completed the accelerated LLB and Diploma in Legal Practice and returned to Oban to work with MacPhee & Partners before joining D M MacKinnon in 2014. Sally became a Partner in 2016. Sally specialises predominantly in residential and commercial conveyancing.

Outside work, Sally continues to design jewellery, sings with The Boogies and stage manages and is part of the creative and set construction team for Spotlight Musical Theatre Group.




Duncan Durbin

Duncan Durbin

Originally from Edinburgh, after qualifying Duncan worked in the Borders and in Edinburgh before joining D M MacKinnon and becoming a partner with this firm. He specialises in criminal advocacy, family law, personal injury cases and contract disputes.

Duncan has many interests outside work including reading, walking, cycling, running, fishing and gardening.


Kevin McGinness

Kevin attended Dundee University and graduated LLB before going on to complete the Diploma, also at Dundee. He completed his traineeship in Glasgow and has specialised in court work since then with particular emphasis on Family, Children’s Hearings and Crime. Kevin was a partner with a firm in Inverness for over ten years before relocating to France to become a partner in an estate agency business. Since returning to legal practice in the UK Kevin has been working as a solicitor in Oban.

In his spare time Kevin enjoys running and percussion, but not at the same time!


Senior Paralegal

Alison Dunn

Alison Dunn

Alison, who has lived most of her life in Oban, joined our firm as our first Paralegal. She has always worked in the legal profession and qualified from Strathclyde University as a Conveyancing Paralegal. She deals with both domestic and commercial conveyancing and liquor licensing.

Away from the office Alison enjoys music, bridge and outdoor pursuits including hill walking, cycling and running.



Caroline Isaac

Caroline is native to Oban and after studying Accounting and working in Property Management in Switzerland and in the Channel Islands, Caroline returned to Oban with her family. Caroline has obtained the University of Strathclyde Specialist Paralegal qualification in Wills, Trusts and Executries making her ideally placed to assist Karen MacAllister with Powers of Attorney, wills, executries, residential leases and general private client business.

Outside work, Caroline enjoys spending time with her family and travelling as often as possible.


Law Accountant

Allan MacLellan

Allan MacLellan

Allan, who has lived in Oban all his life, is a former pupil of St. Columbas and Oban High Schools. After leaving school Allan obtained an HND in Legal Studies before joining the firm and is now a qualified Law Accountant having gained his certificate from Strathclyde University.

Outside work Allan’s main interests are sport. He particularly enjoys coaching primary children’s football teams.
