The Partners

Alan Manson

Alan Manson

Alan joined D M MacKinnon after completing his legal training in Edinburgh. Since becoming a partner with our Firm, he has dealt with a broad range of legal work, though he specialises in conveyancing and all aspects of rural property law, including the commercial development of agricultural land for a number of farming clients.

Away from the office, Alan enjoys outdoor pursuits particularly fishing, walking and sailing.

Louise Fraser

Louise Fraser

Louise is native to Oban and a former pupil of Rockfield School and Oban High School. After obtaining an MA (Hons) in English Language, Louise then completed the accelerated LLB, both at the University of Glasgow. Louise returned to Oban and joined D M MacKinnon in 2010 after working for three years in a commercial firm in Glasgow. Louise became a Partner in 2016. Louise deals mainly with Wills, Trusts and Executries, elderly client advice and employment law matters.

Outside work, Louise enjoys reading, socialising, swimming, spending time with her family and walking her dog.

Sally Orr

Sally is a former pupil of Oban High School. After gaining a BA (Hons) in design, Sally completed a teaching qualification and taught in Edinburgh and Kent. She returned to Edinburgh to work as a designer and latterly Director of a UK jewellery design company before working as an Office Manager for a Leith based architectural and property development company. Sally then returned to university and completed the accelerated LLB and Diploma in Legal Practice and began her legal career in 2010. Sally joined DM MacKinnon in 2014, becoming a Partner in 2016 and specialises in residential and commercial conveyancing.

Outside work, Sally continues to design, sings with The Boogies, stage manages and is part of the creative and set construction team for Spotlight Musical Theatre Group and, weather permitting, enjoys cycling.

Liam McDermid

Having studied at Strathclyde University and subsequently completed his training with a commercial conveyancing firm in Glasgow, Liam has spent much of his working life outside of the U.K., assisting a diverse range of international clients. Since returning to Scotland, he has focused on residential and commercial conveyancing and leasing transactions.

Away from work, Liam continues a life-long interest in sport (both as a spectator and participant) and music as well as enjoying the Argyllshire countryside with his dog.

Thomas Jordan

Thomas Jordan

Thomas started working with our Firm in January 2023 after undertaking his traineeship with an Ayrshire Firm where he worked for a further two years post-qualification, building his knowledge of all aspects of conveyancing. Thomas deals predominantly with residential, commercial and agricultural property transactions, as well as commercial leases.

Thomas’s main passion in life is music and he is a keen singer / songwriter who takes the opportunity to perform at venues across the west coast and central belt when he can. He is also a sporting enthusiast and enjoys playing golf and tennis and going to the gym in his spare time.

Lucy Henderson

Lucy Henderson

Having grown up in Oban, Lucy went on to obtain her LLB and Diploma in Legal Practice, both at the University of Dundee. She completed her training with a central belt firm before returning to Oban and joining D M MacKinnon in March 2023. Lucy mainly deals with Powers of Attorney, Wills and Executries.

Outside of the office Lucy enjoys horse-riding, walking her dog, travelling and spending time with family and friends.

Alison Dunn

Alison Dunn

Alison, who has lived most of her life in Oban and has worked in the legal profession since 1993. Alison joined our Firm in 2002 as a Conveyancing Paralegal, accredited by the Law Society of Scotland. She has over 20 years' experience in residential conveyancing and commercial conveyancing. In 2017, Alison undertook a distance learning law degree and was awarded an LLB by Robert Gordon University in 2020. Alison has since been awarded the Diploma in Legal Practice (with Distinction) and is currently undertaking her traineeship to become a fully qualified solicitor. Alison deals primarily with all aspects of Property Law due to her passion for this area of law.

Away from the office Alison enjoys music, bridge and outdoor pursuits including hill walking, cycling and open water swimming.

Wills and Executries Paralegal

Janet Black

Janet is Oban born and bred and has lived in Oban all of her life. She has worked most of her adult life in the Legal Profession, commencing with another local legal firm back in 1984. Initially working for several years as a Legal Cashier, in 1990 Janet took on a new role as an Executry Paralegal and continued to work in that capacity for 15 years. Janet joined our firm as an Executry Paralegal in 2017. Janet has extensive experience in executry practice. She also maintains her cash room skills and provides support for our Cashier when required.

Away from the office Janet enjoys walking and spending valuable time with her family.

Law Accountant

Allan MacLellan

Allan MacLellan

Allan, who has lived in Oban all his life, is a former pupil of St. Columbas and Oban High Schools. After leaving school Allan obtained an HND in Legal Studies before joining the firm and is now a qualified Law Accountant having gained his certificate from Strathclyde University.

Outside work Allan’s main interests are sport. He particularly enjoys coaching primary children’s football teams.
